Our History
Thomas Industries, which is headquartered in Mobile, actually began in the early 1960’s as Owen and Burnette Roofing. Larry P. Thomas joined the company in 1968 and began to acquire ownership. By 1971, the business name changed to Burnette and Thomas Roofing Company, Inc.

In 1980 Larry Thomas acquired the remaining interests of his partners. He assumed the leadership role of what then became Thomas Roofing Company, Inc. Larry Thomas led the company and his wife, Jan, took on the roles of company accountant, comptroller and corporate secretary.
In the late 1980s, Larry began proudly welcoming a second generation of Thomas entrepreneurs, sons Derek, Kyle and Cory. The Thomas sons aggressively embraced advances in technology in order to enhance the responsiveness, accuracy and quality of service that is expected by our clients. As Cory came on board, the company opened a General Contracting division. In April of 2005, the family changed the company’s name to Thomas Industries, Inc. to reflect the expansion of its construction services.

Today, the company’s scope of work ranges from modern office complexes to award-winning historical structures. Thomas Industries remains the leader in commercial roofing, sheet metal and construction in the region.

We are proud to have grown and expanded our expertise with the addition of Thomas Development and Investments Group, Spec-Seal, Steelco Services, and Bay Building Company. Thomas Development and Investments Group (TDI) specializes in renovation and ground-up real estate developments in Mobile and Baldwin County. Spec-Seal provides waterproofing and restoration services across the Gulf Coast. Steelco Services specializes in steel fabrication, mechanical piping, and equipment installation. Bay Building Company brings dream homes to life with residential custom home building.
Thomas Industries has now welcomed in a third generation of Thomases to the company, many in new roles that have been added. This growth could not be possible without them!
